Work Until you No Longer Have to Introduce Yourself.
“Work until you no longer have to introduce yourself.” Ok, that's not my quote. Harvey Specter (Suits) said it. But when people ask me how it is that I can appear to be everywhere at all times and still have the energy to function in society once the work day is over, that's what I tell them. I get energized by the fact that I still have to introduce myself when I walk into a room…for the most part.
I know this philosophy doesn't work for everyone and I wouldn't expect it to. Whatever it is that drives you to get up and go every morning is what you need to lean into and in 2024, I'm leaning into making sure everyone knows who I am. On our team, we do this by focusing everything we do around a simple question: Will this action result in a new first meeting?
What does that mean exactly? Well, some people measure success by total sales volume but that can be misleading. One person may do 30 Million in sales on three homes while another might do 10 Million on 30 homes. Some measure success in awards or accolades. They're good social proof but if we can't back it up then what's the point? I measure success by how many people know my name.
There's a direct correlation between the amount of people we meet and the amount of deals we do. Shocking…I know. But you'd be surprised at how few people actually keep track of this. I was in a brokerage-wide meeting a few months ago and the presenter asked a simple question: What is our main job as real estate agents? Some people said to sell homes. Others said to represent our clients to the best of our ability. I said to generate leads. That's the answer the presenter wanted. Not to say that everyone was incorrect, they weren't. I take my responsibility very seriously and when you're spending a lot of money with me, it's no joke. But at it's very core, my job as a team leader, entrepreneur, and business owner is to generate new business and I do that by making sure everyone knows who I am.
So hi, my name is Marc and I'm a real estate broker and team lead. People work with me because “I win. That’s what I do.” My clients know “It’s going to happen because I’m going to make it happen.” and after working with other brokers, they come to me because “You don’t send a puppy to clean up its own mess”. So next time we meet, remember, “You don't pay the plumber for banging on the pipes. You pay him for knowing where to bang.” and I always know how to solve a problem because “I'm the best closer this city has ever seen.”
Thanks, Harvey
Marc
